![]() Glenna Ashton, President 2011 - 2013 Glenna R. Ashton now teaches ASL, Interpreter Training, and Deaf Education at Valdosta State University in south Georgia. She has taught Deaf, hard of hearing, and hearing adult and K - 12 students in a wide variety of settings for over 25 years. She has mentored and evaluated teachers and interpreters through various professional organizations. Glenna has a B.S. in Deaf Education from Penn State U., a M.A. in Counseling with the Deaf from Gallaudet U., and an Ed.S. in Administration and Supervision from Nova U. Current certifications include the RID RSC, ASLTA Professional, and Florida teacher certification in Deaf Education, Administration, and ESOL. She was president of FASLTA (Florida ASLTA) for ten years. She has presented workshops on the ASLTA certification evaluation procedures, K-12 pedagogy, Deaf culture & history, ASL linguistics, and ASL to English interpreting skills. She is continuing in her doctoral program at Union Institute & University. |

Dr. Brian R. Kilpatrick, Vice President 2011 - 2015 Dr. Kilpatrick, a 2009 Faculty Excellence Award recipient, is retired in the Interpreter Training Program of Lone Star College - North Harris, Houston, Texas. He earned and Ed.D in DeafStudies/Deaf Education from Lamar Univeristy. His education and training include an MA in Deaf Education from Western Maryland (McDaniel) College, with extensive studies with the National Theatre of the Deaf. He holds BEI Level IV - i and a Texas Certified Court Interpreter and an RID Certified Deaf Interpreter Certificate (RSC), and the ASLTA Professional Certification. He is a professional actor and theatrical consultant. He was a co-founder of Fairmont Theatre of the Deaf in Cleveland, Ohio (now known as Cleveland SignStage) and co-founder of Illuminations Arts in Houston Texas. He has appeared on stage at the Texas Opera Theater, Stages, A.D. Players/ Grace Theatre, University of Houston’ Children Theater Festival, the Heinen Theatre, Express Theatre, the Alley Theatre and with Illuminations Arts. He serves on the Advisory Committee of the Texas Assessment Sign Communications – American Sign Language (TASC-ASL) and TExES for the State Board for Educator Certification (SBEC). He has many years of experience leading workshops and conferences on a varying array of topics. |

Dorothy M. Wilkins is a professor and a director for ASL and ASL/English Interpreting Programs at Keuka College in Keuka Park, NY. Wilkins holds an ASLTA Professional Certificate. She has published and presented on topics such as ASL Literature, Themes and Symbols of Resistance, Affirmation, and Liberation in ASL Poetry, Deaf Cinema, Bilingual Discourse, and Deaf Women. |
![]() Cathi Bouton, Treasurer 2011 - 2015 Cathi Bouton holds ASLTA-Professional Certification, M.A. in Applied Linguistics from the University of Alaska Fairbanks (UAF), and CI and CT from the Registry of Interpreters for the Deaf. She taught ASL at UAF for ten years before founding Visualize ASL, a company that produces interactive supplemental resources for ASL learners. Her special interests include methodology of teaching, specifically focusing on Task-Based Language Teaching. Cathi has presented her research on this topic in a variety of settings, including the Second International Conference on Task-Based Language Teaching; ASLTA National Professional Development Conference; Florida ASLTA Conference; and the ASL Summer Consortium Institute. Cathi is also an RID certified interpreter, providing interpreting services in a variety of settings including primary, secondary, post-secondary education, and video relay. She is currently employed part-time as a video interpreter with Sorenson Communications. Cathi’s professional experience also includes working as a bookkeeper for a credit union and establishing and working as Executive Director for a small nonprofit agency, Deaf Community Services, in Fairbanks, Alaska. Most recently, Cathi served as Secretary, bookkeeper, and program book designer/editor for the ASLTA 2011 National Professional Development Conference. |
![]() Keith M. Cagle, Certification Committee Chair Keith M. Cagle, M.A. currently is the chair and instructor at Central Piedmont Community College’s Interpreting Education program in Charlotte, North Carolina. Prior to this employment, he worked at Gardner-Webb University’s ASL Studies program for ten years. Currently Mr. Cagle is the doctoral student at the University of New Mexico in Albuquerque with a concentration in Educational Linguistics. Mr. Cagle has been the chairperson of national organization of American Sign Language Teachers Association (ASLTA) Certification and Evaluation since 2000. He was the president, vice-president and secretary-treasurer of the national ASLTA, the vice-president of North Carolina ASLTA, and the first president and founder of Lilac Chapter of ASLTA in Rochester, New York. Mr. Cagle has been giving numerous consulting services and presentations in related to ASL, Deaf culture, linguistics, curriculum and evaluation. He has produced some CD-Roms, videotapes and book related to the field of ASL and Deaf community. Mr. Cagle has served on the following committees: NY State Dept of Education’s ASL Advisory group, NTID’s ASL 1-4 Outcomes, North Carolina State Dept of Public Instruction’s ASL Standards, and ASL 1-4 Screening with the University of Northern Colorado. Currently he is serving on the NC State Interpreting Licensure board and the national ASL Standards committee. |
