CLOCK HOURS FOR ASLTA TEACHER CERTIFICATION

Those individuals who are teachers of ASL and/or Deaf Studies will need to fill out the ASLTA Teacher Certification Clock Hour Form for verification purposes. Please see Trix Bruce who is ASLTA Chair of Professional Development in the Conference Center.

If teachers of ASL and/or Deaf Studies have the intent to pursue the ASLTA Teacher Certification, they would be eligible to gather an amount of clock hours based on their workshop attendance. Accordingly, teachers are responsible for keeping their clock hour records while attending keynote speaker events and any of the conference workshops. Trix Bruce will verify all clock hour forms. In addition, it should be understood that clock hour records are on the honor system.

For more information about what the ASLPI is, see below.
?What is the American Sign Language Proficiency Interview (ASLPI)? ?The precept in this type of evaluation is to find out, through a face-to-face interview, what an individual can do with the target language at a given point in time. The ASLPI involves an interactive process between an interviewer and the individual being evaluated. This process is video recorded and holistically scored by a team of raters. The raters assign a proficiency level by considering the examinee’s performance in five areas: grammar, vocabulary, production/accent, fluency and comprehension. Proficiency levels awarded range from 0-5. Except for level 5, the scoring process sometimes results in the assignment of a plus value (+). This does not represent a midway point between two levels, but may be inferred to indicate that the examinee exceeds the requirements for a particular level but does not satisfy in all respects the requirements of the next higher level.
